Odia Migrants Yet To Return From Kerala: Families Threaten Mass Suicide
Nayagarh: Families of 18 migrant labourers have threatened to commit suicide if their family members working outside Odisha do not return home soon.
In a letter to Nayagarh district administration, the families of Damodarpur village under Ranpur block have stated that their family members working in Kerala have been stranded there for more than one and a half months.
The villagers complained that the labourers were spending days in hunger as they have spent their savings since the lockdown was imposed. Though they want to work to earn some amount so that they can return to Odisha, nobody in their area has come to their rescue.
The labourers have informed their families that the local administration in Kerala has also remained indifferent even after they informed about their plight.
The distressed families have appealed to Nayagarh administration to make immediate arrangement for safe return of the stranded workers failing which they will resort to mass suicide.
