Odia Researcher Sanjeeb Sahoo Among World’s Highly-Cited
Bhubaneswar: Among the most influential researchers in the world, as listed by firm Clarivate Analytics, is Odisha’s Dr Sanjeeb Kumar Sahoo.
A scientist at the Institute of Life Sciences, Bhubaneswar, he is the only Odia among 10 Indians in the list of over 4,000 scientists.
Sahoo is known for his research work on nanomedicine mediated targeting of cancer stem-like cells.
Eminent scientists and former head of the scientific advisory council to the Prime Minister CNR Rao has been placed in the fifth edition of Clarivate Analytics’ list.
The scientists from India, some of whom are not from any prestigious or leading institutions, include Ashok Mittal, a researcher from Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology, Bhopal, and his wife Jyoti Mittal from the same institute. Jyoti is also the only female researcher from India to found a place in the list.
The others are Avinash Kumar, an IIT professor, Ashok Pandey from CSIR’s Indian Institute of Toxicology Research, JNU’s Dinesh Mohan, Rajeev Varshney from International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics in Hyderabad, Saktjibel Rathinaswamy from Bharathiar University of Coimbatore and Rajnish Kumar from IIT Madras.
In total, 4,058 researchers have been featured as the Highly Cited in 21 Essential Science Indicator (ESI) fields.
The United States topped the country ranking with highest number of Highly-Cited Researchers (2,639). Next on the list is the United Kingdom with 546 scientists while China ranks third with 482.
