Bhubaneswar: Popular singer Humane Sagar has landed in controversy for allegedly refusing to sing Lord Jagannath bhajans and issuing life threats to Odia music director Debashis Mallick aka Japani.
Japani has filed a complaint against Sagar at Kharavel Nagar police station claiming threat to life. Japani stated in his complaint that one Babloo of Sagar Sangam group (for whom Humane sings) called up on the mobile number of Tapu Nayak when they were in Unit IV area in the city and threatened to beat up Japani if he dares to go to Cuttack.
Speaking to local news channels Japani also claimed that Babloo also issued a life threat to him.
The music director said he had been requesting Humane for nearly 5 years to render some Jagannath bhajans because of the popular demand. However, the singer has always turned down the offer, claimed Japani.
Stating that art has no religion, Japani said Mohammed Rafi and Sikander Alam had lent their voice to songs of other religions and Humane Sagar should not hesitate to follow in their footsteps.
However, the controversy between the two is not new. A few years back at a function at Dhenkanal, Japani had openly called upon the public to boycott Humane Sagar and his programmes if he does not sing Jagannath bhajans.
