Bhubaneswar: A pall of gloom descended on Podana village in Niali block of Cuttack district after Papina Lenka (24), engaged as a plumber at a firm in Kuwait, went missing on January 11.
Papina is the sole income earner of the family and had left for Kuwait on December 13.
“He had spoken to me on January 11. Since then, I have not heard from him,” said his mother Manjulata Lenka in a broken voice. She had lodged a complaint at the Niali police station.
Papine was sharing a room with some of his friends. When they reached out to his roommates, they were informed that Papina had gone missing. He did not report to office nor came back to his quarter, the villagers said.
The family has now sought the intervention of the state government and the district collector to trace their missing son.
Former MP from Kendrapada Baijayant Panda, meanwhile, has written to K Jeeva Sagar, Ambassador of India in Kuwait, seeking his cooperation in locating Lenka.
The Indian Embassy in Kuwait through its twitter handle has informed that a complaint has been registered with the police by his employer (NSH Nasser S. Al-Hajri & Partner Co). The Mission was also trying its best to locate him.
