Berhampur: Police foiled a murder accused’s bid to escape from Kodala police station in Odisha’s Ganjam district with the help of some miscreants on Thursday evening.
According to sources, Bikram Parida from Chachina village was being questioned by police in connection with the murder of Dipu Patra in 2023 when his supporters allegedly barged in and tried to forcibly take him away from there.
This led to a scuffle between the police and Parida’s supporters, who were soon overpowered but managed to flee later.
The accused was then sent to judicial custody and a case was also registered against two persons, involved in the physical altercation with police, sources in Ganjam police said.
Dipu, a Surat returnee, was allegedly abducted and killed over illegal liquor trade disputes between two groups. Five persons, including a juvenile, were apprehended by the police in connection with his murder in October 2023.
