Balasore: Did the deceased Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF), Soumya Ranjan Mohapatra, have an extra-marital affair?
While the ACF’s widow, Bidyabharati Panda, accused him of infidelity on Tuesday, his grieving mother, Tulasi Mohapatra, refuted the claim.

“My daughter-in-law’s allegation against my son is fabricated and baseless. My son never had a relationship with any woman. Before his marriage, he used to tell me to find a bride for him. I had told him that as he has several female friends who were studying with him and he could choose to marry one of them. But my son said he couldn’t do so because they were like his sisters who tied rakhi on his hands,” Tulasi told the media.
“If my son was having an affair after his marriage, he would not have stayed with Bidya for the past seven months. My daughter-in-law has brought up the false charge so that she could escape unscathed from the crime she has committed,” the bereaved mother added.
The ACF’s father, Abhiram Mohapatra, echoed this charge and also accused his daughter-in-law of behaving suspiciously. “Even though my son was critically burnt, she did not show any urgency to admit him to a hospital. Instead, she was busy collecting her ornaments from my son’s residence,” Abhiram said.
“You can see her body language. She was looking tense and bewildered. Being a wife, there was no sign of any morose on her face even when her husband was battling for his life,” he added.
