Odisha Assembly Adjourned Again, Speaker Convenes All-Party Meeting

Bhubaneswar: Speaker Pradip Kumar Amat convened an all-party meeting to restore normalcy and ensure the smooth functioning of the Odisha Assembly on Friday as pandemonium continued to prevail in the house for the fifth consecutive day.
The Speaker had adjourned the Assembly for one hour on Thursday.

The uproar began in the house after its session began at 10.30 am. While the BJD MLAs shouted slogans against the Centre for its gross apathy towards Odisha, the opposition Congress and BJP members demanded a discussion on the issues of farmers and sexual assault of minor girls in the state.
“We had urged the Speaker to initiate discussions on unemployment and farmers’ issues. This is a lifeless government. Had the government been keen on listening to the grievances of the farmers, there would have been no stalemate in the Assembly,” leader of the Opposition, Narasingha Mishra told mediapersons after the adjournment of the house.

Referring to the unemployment problem, Mishra said both the state government and the Centre have grossly failed in keeping up their promise they had made to the people during the 2014 elections.

“Both are busy shifting the blame on each other. But the fact remains that both are at fault,” he noted.
