Odisha Assembly Adjourned For Long Period As Govt Wants To Avoid Discussion On Sensitive Issues, Claims Narasingha Mishra

Bhubaneswar: Hitting out at the Odisha government over functioning of the Assembly, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) Leader Narasingha Mishra on Monday accused it of trying to avoid discussion on important and sensitive issues.

After the Assembly was adjuorned till 4 pm following ruckus by opposition, the veteran Congress leader questioned the necessity to adjourn the House for such a long period of time.

It may be noted that the Assembly was adjourned till 4 pm after opposition BJP and Congress members created a ruckus during the question hour over alleged leak of matric examination question papers. They also demanded resignation of School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash.

It was not proper to adjourn the House for a very long period just because the opposition legislators staged a protest, Mishra told reporters outside the House.

Terming adjournment of the House from morning till 4 pm as disappointing, the senior Congress leader allegd that the state government does not want the House to function and opposition MLAs to speak during the Zero Hour.

Accusing the government of trying to skip discussion on sensitive issues raised by oppositon legislators, Mishra claimed that all-party meetings convened by the Speaker often fail to yield any positive outcome.

Moreover, the legislators are unable to get answers to their questions as the Ministers lack information on queries raised by them on many occasions, he claimed, adding that the dignity of the House is getting lowered these ways and the Speaker should convene an all-party meeting on the issue.
