Bhubaneswar: The first day of the winter session of Odisha Assembly witnessed an uproar that forced the Speaker, Surya Narayan Patro, to adjourn the House till 3 pm.
After the Assembly condoled the demise of three legislators—Sahura Mallick, Udit Pratap Deo and Brundaban Patra—and Jayaram Kabasi, a jawan of the District Voluntary Force (DVF), the Speaker announced the commencement of question hour.
However, BJP and Congress members opposed the Speaker’s decision and rushed to the well of the House to protest. They demanded Patro to cancel the question-hour session and take up their adjournment motion notice on atrocities on women and the death of Haridaspur PEO Smitarani Biswal for discussion .
When the Speaker rejected their demand, the opposition members created a ruckus and shouted anti-government slogans. Patro then adjourned the House.
