Bhubaneswar: The morning session of the Assembly was washed out for the third consecutive day on Friday as the Speaker adjourned the House without transacting any business due to uproar by Congress MLAs.

As soon as the House assembled on the third day of the monsoon session, the Congress legislators staged a protest alleging corruption in the selection process of the Odisha Staff Selection Commission (OSSC). They stood up in their seats and raised slogans against the state government on the issue.

The party MLAs including Tara Prasad Bahinipati and Sura Routray rushed to the Well of the House and created an uproar. They said there was a huge scam in the selection by the Commission. As the uproar continued, Speaker Sujya Narayan Patro adjourned the House till 4 pm.

The Assembly was adjourned till 12.34 pm following an uproarious scene on the first day of the monsoon session. On the second day also, the House was adjourned till 11.30 am following a ruckus by BJP members.

However, the opposition BJP moved an adjournment motion on the law and order situation in the state amid din. Minister of State (Home) Dibya Shankar Mishra will give a reply in the House.

Speaking to the media outside the Assembly, BJP Legislator Mohan Majhi said there is a deal between BJD and Congress to prevent smooth functioning of the House. “The government knows that it will get into trouble by discussing issues like Mahanga murder case and law and order situation in the state,” he added.

On the other hand, BJD MLA Snehangini Chhuria said several important Bills were scheduled to be tabled in the House, but the Opposition is not allowing any business to be transacted.
