Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly was disrupted on the second consecutive day on Thursday with opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Congress members creatin ruckus over issues such as alleged mismanagement of paddy procurement process.
As soon as the House assembled for the day, uproarious scenes erupted as BJD legislators entered holding placards and banners amid slogan-shouting. Opposition members trooped into the well of the House and staged protest near the Speaker’s podium.
Despite repeated appeals by the Speaker to maintain order, opposition legislators continued to create noise. The disruption prevented the Question Hour from proceeding, forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House until 11.30 am.
The protest centred on farmer-related issues, including crop-cutting disputes, mandi problems, and alleged anti-farmer policies. Legislators demanded immediate government action and accountability.
The heated exchanges highlighted growing tensions between the ruling party and the opposition. Both sides accused each other of ignoring the farmers’ plight.
