Odisha Assembly To Go Paperless Soon, Says Speaker Surama Padhi

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Assembly will go paperless with the process of digitisation of its entire functioning set to be completed soon, said Speaker Surama Padhi on Saturday.

Inaugurating a state-level training camp on capacity building in National e-Vidhan Application (NEVA) on the premises of the Assembly, Padhi said the process of digitisation of Assembly functions, which was started in the last Assembly, would be completed during the present government. The NEVA was developed and implemented by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) in the Assembly.

“The digitisation will not only create a paper-less and environment-friendly workspace in the Assembly. It will cover all activities inside the House including question hour, presentation of bills and discussion on those and related matters,” she said.

“With artificial intelligence in place, we have to put the project on fast track. Otherwise, our state will stay behind in the field of technology application in governance,” she added.

Speaking on the occasion, Assembly secretary Dasarathi Mishra said the digitisation would not only ensure transparency in the functioning of the Assembly but also save precious time of the government and opposition parties.

State Informatic Officer Ashok Kumar Hota said the project would provide information from district level to all MLAs in the state.
