Bhubaneswar: Award-winning screenplay writer Nandalal Mohapatra passed away in Odisha capital on Sunday at the age of 75.
According to sources, Mohapatra died at a private hospital while undergoing treatment for old-age-related ailments.
He has been credited for writing screenplay and dialogues of many award-winning Odia films and TV serials. At the 30th State Films award in 2019, he was adjudged as the best dialogue writer for the film ‘Bhija Matira Swarga’.
His list of critically acclaimed films includes ‘Niraba Jhada’, ‘Klanta Aparanha’, ‘Nisiddha Swapna’, ‘Kichhi Smruti Kichhi Anubhuti’, ‘Dura Diganta’, ‘Bhija Matira Swarga’, ‘Majhi Pahacha’ and ‘Tri Sandhya’. His last film script was ‘Gaon ra na Galuapur’.
Born in 1947 at Jagatsinghpur, Mohapatra began his career in films with acclaimed director Manmohan Mohapatra. Mohapatra has bagged state film awards four times for his stories, which were quite popular and critically acclaimed. His death has cast a pall of gloom on the film fraternity. His latest film ‘Buxi Jagabandhu’ is yet to release
