Bhubaneswar: Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA) has bagged the Express Computer IT Excellence Award, 2019 for its innovative use of information technology in the field of disaster management.
Express India has invited Bishnupada Sethi, Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Disaster Management) and Managing Director, OSDMA, to receive the award at Bombay Exhibition Centre in Mumbai on September 18.
Announcing the award, Express India said Odisha has come a long way since the 1999 Super Cyclone and has now become a model state in disaster preparedness and risk mitigation.
“SATARK” (System for Assessing, Tracking and Alerting Disaster Risk Information based on Dynamic Risk Knowledge) has been chosen for the award.
The SATARK application, both for web and mobile, provides real-time watch, alert and information about different hazards like heat wave, lightning, drought, flood, tsunami, earthquake, cyclone/storm, road accident and snakebite.
It uses a different level of warnings and issues corresponding advisories based on the event scenario. It is available in both Odia and English.
Express Computer IT Excellence Awards are given to organisations and government departments that demonstrate the innovative use of IT for distinct benefits to the public. This includes deploying new solutions or the innovative use of existing technology to gain a competitive edge, improve operations, and become more responsive to government officials and public.
