Odisha: Berhampur University VC To Step Down Ahead Of Term

Berhampur: The vice-chancellor of Berhampur University, Prof Govind J Chakrapani, will step down from the post five months before the end of his term.

Odisha Governor and Chancellor of universities Prof Ganeshi Lal had appointed Prof Chakrapani as vice-chancellor in September, 2019 for a period of three years and his term is scheduled to end in September, 2022. Prof Chakrapani was appointed after being selected through due process.

But Prof Chakrapani has requested the Governor to relinquish him of the duty on April 30 due to personal reasons and the latter has has givens his consent. 

Before being his appointment as vice-chancellor of Berhampur University, Prof Chakrapani was serving as professor in the Department of Earth Sciences, IIT, Roorkee. After completing his MSc in Applied Geology in IIT, Mumbai, he did his MPhil in Environmental Sciences and PhD from JNU, New Delhi in Environmental Geosciences.

Chakrapani did his Post Doctoral in Marine Sciences from the University of Delaware, USA in 1991-92. He has three decades of teaching experience and also academic administrative experience of holding several posts and responsibilities.
