Bhubaneswar: Optimistic about its victory in Dhamnagar, Odisha BJP on Thursday said the party will announce its candidate for the by-election to the Assembly seat in Bhadarak district in a day or two, but indicated that among the probables is the son of Bishnu Charan Sethi, whose demise has necessitated the bypoll.
Stating this, BJP state general secretary Golak Mohapatra indicated that Suryabansi Suraj might be fielded by the party as he enjoys the support of the people in the constituency for carrying out a host of developmental work in the area.
Stating that Bishnu Sethi, who represented Dhamnagar as BJP MLA since 2019, was highly popular in the constituency, Mohapatra said his son has always stood by the people through thick and thin.
“He has people’s support as he has been associated with several developmental works in the area,” the senior BJP leader added.
Exuding confidence that the BJP will again register its victory in the bypoll, Mohapatra said “our position is very good in Dhamnagar. We will definitely win and the victory margin will be better than the previous election.”
Bishnu Sethi was known for his welfare activities and his goodwill will ensure BJP’s victory in the seat in November 3 by-election, he added.
In 2019, Bishnu Sethi won the election by a margin of 4625 votes. While he polled 80,111 votes, Rajendra K Das of BJD got 75,486. While Manmohan Samal of BJP had won the seat in the 2004 elections, Rajendra Das of BJD was elected from Dhamnagar in 2009 and Muktikanta Mondal of BJD in 2014.
