Bhubaneswar: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has revoked the suspension of former Odisha MP Aira Kharabela Swain, who represented Balasore in Lok Sabha.
“The BJP has revoked the suspension of senior leader Aira Kharabela Swain,” Odisha unit of the BJP said in a statement.
Swain had been elected to the Lok Sabha from the Balasore constituency as a BJP candidate in 1998, 1999 and 2004.
The senior leader had left the BJP in 2009 and launched a new political outfit in the state. However, he returned to the saffron party in 2019 and unsuccessfully contested the Lok Sabha polls from Kandhamal.
Swain had reportedly sought the BJP ticket to fight the 2024 Lok Sabha polls from Balasore. He fought the election as an independent candidate after being denied party ticket. Swain had been suspended from the BJP for indiscipline.
