Bhubaneswar: Suniti Mund, who was BJP nominee for the 2022 election to the post of Mayor of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation, has been suspended for anti-party activities.
On being asked by reporters about her suspension, BJP’s Odisha in-charge Vijaypal Singh Tomar on Sunday said, “Anyone who breaks discipline of the party will face action.” However, he did not elaborate further.
According to sources, Mund was suspended on the basis of allegations levelled by a BJP MLA candidate, who lost the assembly election in Bhubaneswar. The MLA candidate had alleged discrepancy in management of funds assigned to her for social media campaign during polls and attributed it to the defeat. After conducting an internal inquiry, the state unit of the saffron party decided to suspend Mund from BJP.
Former Khurda district BJP president Nikunj Patnaik, district secretary Bidyut Kandi, Khurda district Farmers Morcha president Tapas Jena, Tribal Morcha Khurda district president Shiva Mallik and activist Dhaneshwar Barik have also been suspended from the party.
BJP’s media cell informed that the action was taken on the five leaders following orders from the state BJP leadership.
