Bhubaneswar: With Prime Minister Narendra Modi calling for nationwide austerity measures, the Odisha unit of BJP has decided to organise a massive e-bike rally in Bhubaneswar on May 18 to welcome party president Nitin Nabin during his maiden visit to the state.
According to BJP sources, the rally will start from Biju Patnaik International Airport here and proceed to the party’s Bhubaneswar district unit at Jatni, where a district-level training camp for party workers and leaders is scheduled. “We are planning a massive e-bike rally to welcome the BJP president. The rally aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emphasis on fuel conservation and cost reduction in the face of global economic pressures,” senior party leader Jagannath Pradhan told reporters, adding that the proposal was approved during a preparatory meeting at the party’s state headquarters on Tuesday.
Interestingly, PM Modi has ordered a 50 per cent reduction in the size of his convoy and called for greater use of electric vehicles as part of a wider austerity and fuel-saving drive amid economic stress linked to the Iran war.
Maiden Visit
Nabin is scheduled to arrive in the city in the morning and attend a series of party programmes during his first trip to Odisha since taking over the top organisational post in January. The session is expected to focus on booth-level management, digital communication and public engagements as part of the party’s nationwide organisational training campaign. He is also likely to review organisational affairs and strategies on strengthening coordination between the government and the organisation ahead of election to the three-tier panchayati raj institutions next year, possibly after the Census operation which will be completed in February.
He may also hold separate meetings with the council of ministers led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and state office-bearers later in the day, the sources added.
