Balasore: A 14-year-old boy committed suicide in frustration after his father failed to get him a smartphone for attending online classes during the pandemic. The incident was reported from Kalasimuli village under Baliapal block in Odisha’s Balasore district on Tuesday.
The deceased — an eighth standard student of Kalasimuli Nodal School — had asked for a smartphone as the device was necessary for online classes. His father had also promised him to buy a mobile phone after paddy harvesting and subsequent earning.
Before the father could buy him a smartphone, the minor boy was found hanging inside the house on Tuesday when none was present.
Police later rushed to the village and recovered the body for post-mortem. A case of unnatural death has been registered in this connection.
