Bhubaneswar: Odisha is likely to experience hot and humid weather conditions during the next 4-5 days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Friday.

According to the weather agency, the day temperature is likely to rise further by 2°C at a few places in interior Odisha during the next 48 hours due to prevailing dry conditions over major parts the state and high solar insolation. “Consequently, the maximum temperature is likely to remain between 38°C and 40°C at many places in interior parts and between 36°C and 38°C in the coastal districts of Odisha during next 4 to 5 days,” it said.

The MeT office has advised people to take precautionary measure while going outside during day time with the relative humidity remaining in the range of 50% to 70% in coastal Odisha and between 30% to 50% in interior districts.

Till 2.30 pm, the mercury had soared to 39.1°C in Jharsuguda while Chandbali recorded 38.4°C followed by Rourkela (37.6°C), Sambalpur (37.5°C), Bhubaneswar (37.4°C), Keonjhar (37.4°C), Hirakud (37.4°C), Balasore (35°C) and Puri (33°C). The mercury is likely to soar to 40°C in twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack by April 2.

Yellow warning of thunderstorm with lightning has also been issued for one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, and Jajpur districts till Saturday morning. There is a similar warning for Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar during the subsequent 24 hours.

The IMD has also predicted light to moderate rain/thundershower at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Kalahandi, and Gajapati on Friday. Similar weather conditions may prevail in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapada, Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur on Saturday. Light to moderate rain/thundershower may continue at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Balasore, and Bhadrak on Sunday.
