Bhubaneswar: Odisha Finance Minister Niranjan Pujari also presented a separate child budget in the Assembly on Monday. The total amount spent on child budget through various child specific schemes and programmes increased to Rs 24,119.72 crore in 2021-22 from Rs 20,111.63 crore in 2019-20.
The per-child expenditure (PCE) in the budget too has increased to Rs 16,593 from Rs 13,857 during 2019-20.
The budget documents state that School and Mass Education (SME) department has the highest share with Rs 18,27,508 lakh in child budget followed by Women and Child Development and Mission Shakti Department with Rs 3,17,855 lakh and Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes Development, Minorities and Backward Classes Welfare Department with Rs 2,45,673 lakh.
State sector schemes, including Establishment Operation and Management have the highest share of expenditure on child centric schemes with Rs 18,97,064 lakh for 2021-22.
Majority of the child centric expenditure is concentrated on Programme Expenditure with Rs 12,06,893 lakh followed by Administrative Expenditure at Rs 12,05,078 lakh.

In the three financial years, Education Sector has the highest share across all sectors with Rs 20,67,920 lakh for both Administrative Expenditure (AE) and Programme Expenditure (PE) followed by Development Sector with Rs 63,311 lakh.
In 2021-22 more than 85.74% of the share is concentrated in education followed by development 2.62%, health 10.95% and protection 0.69%.
