Odisha Bypoll: BJP Finds Vote Share Rise In Jharsuguda Encouraging
Bhubaneswar: After the spectacular victory of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) candidate Deepali Das in Jharsuguda Assembly bypoll in Odisha, political parties have given their reactions.
Deepali won the bypoll by trouncing her nearest BJP candidate Tankadhar Tripathy by a whopping margin of 48,721 votes. She polled 107198 votes.
Following the declaration of results and saffron party’s defeat, Unoin Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and state BJP president Manmohan Samal have reacted and said the party will review the outcome in Jharsuguda.
Accepting the people’s verdict, Dharmendra said the result is encouraging for BJP as the party’s vote share has gone up significantly in Jharsuguda constituency.
Expressing his gratitude to the people of Jharsuguda and congratulated Deepali for her victory, the Union Minister said credut for BJP’s vote share goes to the party workers and leaders who worked hard for the bypoll.
Speaking to media, Samal said the party respects people’s mandate. He congratulated Deepali for her victory and Tankadhar for polling more than 58,000 votes despite contesting the bypoll in adverse conditions. Despite misuse of government machinery by the ruling party, BJP has increased its vote share, he claimed.
Stating that winning a bypoll does not mean anything for next year’s Lok Sabah and Odisha Assembly elections, the senior BJP leader said the saffron party’s hard work will yield good results in the next polls.
It may be noted here that BJP’s Tankadhar polled around 3.2 per cent more votes than what his party nominee Dinesh Jain had bagged in 2019 election in Jharsuguda Assembly constituency. This time, BJP got about 5,556 more votes. In 2019, BJP’s Dinesh Jain got 52,921 votes, while Tankadhar 58,477 votes in the by-election held on May 10.
