Bhubaneswar: An elderly woman collapsed while on her way to a polling booth during Tirtol bypoll in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district and later died at a hospital on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Nagari Sethi of Redhua area. She collapsed while heading towards the polling station at Redhua in Raghunathpur block. She was rushed to the Redhua Community Health Centre by her family members.
She was later shifted to the Jagatsinghpur district headquarters hospital after her condition deteriorated, but doctors there declared her dead.
Meanwhile, the Assembly constituency saw 55.23 per cent polling till 3 pm. In Balasore Sadar, where bypoll is also be held, the voters’ turnout was 54.85 per cent.
According to reports, 126 people of Nandachaka village of Parathi Panchayat did not cast their votes in the bypoll to Balasore Sadar in protest against the government’s alleged lackadaisical attitude towards their long-standing demands for a bridge and all-weather road.
