Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Cabinet on Tuesday approved a proposal by the Works Department for construction of a high-level bridge over Subarnarekha river at Haldipada on NH-16 in Balasore district.
The construction of the 993.12-metre-long and 62.07-meter-wide bridge connecting Jamkunda in Baliapal Block with Adangapantei in Bhograi Block will be taken up under the Central Road Fund Scheme through EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contract.
Subarnarekha river creates a barrier among economically and culturally important places on both sides due to the lack of direct connectivity. Therefore, the proposed bridge will provide a direct link between Baliapal and Bhograi blocks as well as connect the Subarnarekha mouth port, Chandaneswar and Bhusundeswar among other places.
It will improve communication facilities and reduce the distance between the two blocks resulting in the industrial and economic development of the people of these areas.
The Cabinet approved the lowest tender of Rs 138.74 crore for the construction of the bridge, which will be completed within 30 months.
