Odisha Cabinet Resolves To Move Centre On MSP Of All Crops
Bhubaneswar: The state Cabinet on Wednesday decided to move the Central Government to implement the recommendations of the MS Swaminathan committee regarding Minimum Support Price (MSP) of all crops.
According to an official communication of the government, the MSP is an important tool for income generation of the farmers. The farmers’ income needs to keep pace with the growth of income in other sectors and the rise in the costs of cultivation.
“The MSP of any agricultural produce has to be fixed in a holistic manner so as to make farming operations profitable and safeguard the farmers against all types of risks,” said the government communication.
The Assembly had passed unanimous resolutions in this regard in 2017 and 2018. The national commission had recommended that MSP should be at least 50% more than the average cost of production.
