Odisha Capital Runs For Fire Safety
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Fire Service Department ended the National Fire Safety week with a road run in Bhubaneswar, Sambalpur and Berhampur.
The fire safety awareness road run in Odisha capital was flagged off by DG Fire Service B K Sharma from Baramunda Fire Station Ground. The run saw 700 participants. Twelve fire service vehicles and three ambulances of three private hospitals along with the supporting staff, covered the distance till Kalpana Square.
Among others, IGP fire services Rajesh Kumar, footballer Shardhanjali Samantray, athlete Anuradha Biswal and actresses Twinkle Mishra and Bidusmita Mantri were present.
Fire service officers and personnel had earlier paid homage to about 20 personnel who lost their lives in the last one year while performing their duties, on National Fire Service Day, on April 14. None among them was from Odisha.
National Fire Safety Week is observed across India from April 14 to April 20. The first day is known as Martyrs Day, observed in memory of 66 fire safety personnel who died in the explosion of SS Fort Stick Line, a British ship in Mumbai, on April 14, 1944.
The department also conducts Fire Duty Week in the first week of April, among officers and personnel of all ranks on professional subjects, including underwater skills, firefighting, rescue and other skills.
