Cuttack: Centenarian freedom fighter Nilamani Samal has been admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital (MCH) in Odisha’s Cuttack city after suffering a massive brain stroke. His condition is stated to be critical.
According to sources, his CT scan on Thursday revealed a massive haemorrhage in the brain. “His blood pressure level is also very low and he is being provided treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Neurosurgery Department by a four-member expert committee of specialist doctors,” SCBMHC authorities were quoted as saying by media.
The committee includes Saroj Kumar Tripathy of medicine department, head of neurosurgery department Sanjiv Kumar Mishra, neurologist Dr Kali Prasanna Swain and cardiologist Dr Dipak Ranjan Das.
Samal, who hails from Balichandrapur village in Badachana block of Jajpur district, was first admitted to Jajpur district headquarters hospital and later shifted to SCBMCH as his condition deteriorated.
The 101-year-old freedom fighter is the president of All India Freedom Fighters Association. He has been conferred with the President’s Award twice and also felicitated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
