Sambalpur: The Sambalpur administration in Odisha has announced a change in working hours for government offices, beginning Thursday, in view of heatwave conditions.
The offices will operate from 7 am to 1 pm without a lunch break, till June 15. The change in timings is aimed at ensuring a better working environment for government employees with temperature hovering around 40 degree Celsius.
“In pursuance of Order No. 14883/dated 04.04.2006, Govt of Odisha, Home Department, the State Government Offices, Revenue, and Executive Magistrate Courts shall be held this year on working days from 7 AM to 1 PM without a lunch break from 10th of April to 15th of June in Sambalpur District,” the letter read.
“Hence all concerned officers and staff are directed to attend their respective offices in the above stipulated time period fixed up by the Government of Odisha during the Summer season,” it added.
India is set to experience a hotter-than-usual summer from April to June, with an increase in heatwave days in central and eastern India as well as the northwestern plains, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
