Odisha Chess Player Soundarya Wins Silver, Gold As India Creates History In Asian Para Games

Bhubaneswar: Odisha‘s visually-impaired chess ace Soundarya Kumar Pradhan won the team Gold and individual Silver in B1 category as India on Saturday made history by finishing their Hangzhou Asian Para Games campaign with a record 111 medals, the most for the country in any major international multi-sport event.

Soundarya bagged silver in the individual rapid VI B1 Chess event with a score of 5.5 points from seven rounds, which included five wins and one draw.

Satish Irani Darpan and Ashwin Makwana, both from Gujarat, clinched gold and silver, respectively, at the event. The trio won the gold medal at Team Rapid VI B1 Chess by scoring 11.5 points.

The final medal count for India read 29 gold, 31 silver and 51 bronze.
