Odisha Chief Secretary Directs For Timely Completion Of Gangadhar Meher LI Project In Bargarh
Bargarh: Odisha Chief Secretary Suresh Mahapatra has expressed displeasure over the slow progress of Gangadhar Meher Mega Lift Irrigation Project work in the district.
Mahapatra, who is on a tour to Bargarh on Sunday, visited the construction of the irrigation project. He said the progress of the project taken up by L&T was very poor and directed the officials of the construction company present there to speed up the work to complete it within deadline.
“The irrigation project has been targeted to be completed by September 2023 to help farmers draw water from it,” chief minister Naveen Patnaik had said while on a visit to Bargarh.
The lift irrigation project aims to irrigate more than 30,o00 hectare of 122 villages in chronically drought-hit Bijepur, Sohela and Barpali blocks of Bargarh district and Dunguripalli block of Sonepur district.
Mahapatra also visited mega pipe water supply scheme at Sikridhi in the district and directed the departmental engineers and officers to complete the work within a year. He also set timelines for different phases of the projects and told the executing agencies to follow those strictly. The project would supply piped water to all houses in Bargarh, Bijepur, Gaiailat and Barpali blocks.
The chief secretary also visited transit houses of the families staying at Kurumkel village rehabilitation colony and discussed various facilities including road, power supply, school, ration materials and health services.
Total 359 families are staying in this colony. Each family has been provided 10 decimal of homestead land, Biju Pucca Ghar and financial support for livelihood activities. Basic social and physical infrastructure has also been built in the colony.
The families are building their own permanent houses on the alloted land. They would stay in the transit houses till completion of their pucca houses.
