Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced the formation of several new Notified Area Councils (NACs) and municipalities across the state on the occasion of Self-Governance Day on Sunday.
The Chief Minister announced the creation of 16 new NACs and seven new municipalities to strengthen local governance and civic facilities in urban and semi-urban areas.
As per the announcement, the new NACs are Loisingha in Balangir district, Sohela (Bargarh), Badamba, Narasinghpur, and Salepur (Cuttack), Gondia (Dhenkanal), Jagannathprasad and Patrapur (Ganjam), Chandikhole (Jajpur), Narla and Jayapatna (Kalahandi), Tangi (Khurdha), Borigumma (Koraput), and Kaptipada, Jashipur, and Rasgovindpur (Mayurbhanj).
This apart, new municipalities have been formed in Karanjia in Mayurbhanj district, Boudh (Boudh), and Bhanjanagar, Aska, Chhatrapur, Kabisuryanagar, and Polasara (Ganjam).
Officials said this initiative aims to strengthen local governance and provide better infrastructure, civic facilities and services to these areas.
Odisha currently has 115 urban local bodies, including 62 NACs.
An official notification issued on August 16 had announced the creation of NACs in 12 towns.
