Odisha CM Announces Big Plans To ‘Decongest’ Cuttack
Bhubaneswar: The Ring Road around Cuttack will be made into six lanes, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced on Thursday
The CM said this after visiting the proposed site of the second campus of SCB Medical College and Hospital at Hadia Patha on the banks of river Mahanadi.
After reviewing the proposed project, he said that the reclamation of land from Mahanadi, “the lifeline of the people”, has created a once in a lifetime opportunity to breath fresh life into the core of the historic Millennium City.
Talking about the second SCB campus, the CM said every inch of the 424-acre site will be utilized to add ecological, recreational, sporting, cultural, aspirational and technological value in the lives of the people of Cuttack.
“The state government will endeavour to prepare a decongestion plan for Cuttack so as to enable our beloved Millennium City to have wider roads, better accessibility, public spaces and utilities, parks, modern urban infrastructure, parking, greenery etc,” he added.
He further said that the objective will be to maintain greenery and open spaces in most of the reclaimed area. The rest of the land, which is beautifully surrounded by an international class river front, will be utilised for development purposes.
The CM further stated that the state government will engage the best in class city planners and invest the necessary resources in this transformation. He said the government will also take people’s feedback so that they can contribute to make it a citizens’ plan. “I would sincerely appeal to the people of Cuttack to actively cooperate and participate to make this dream a reality,” he pointed out.
Among others, 5-T secretary VK Pandian, Cuttack Collector Bhabani Shankar Chaini and all BJD MLAs and ministers of Cuttack district were present.
