Bhubaneswar: In a significant development on Utkal Divas, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has approved the proposal for metro railway connecting Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Puri.

Stating that the Chief Minister approved the metro railway propsaal on the auspicious occation of Utkal Divas, he said this transformational initiative will be executed by the state government following 5T principles.
This is a significant part of the CM’s vision for a ‘new Odisha,” he added.
The state government had been contemplating launch of metro train service to resolve traffic-related issues.
On Saturday morning, a team of officials including Chief Secretary P K Jena, Development Commissioner Anu Garg, Principal Secretary, Commerce & Transport Usha Padhee, Secretary to CM (5T) VK Pandian, and IT Secretary Manoj Mishra conducted spot visit to chalk out modalities of the proposed project.

Sources said the route between Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar and Trisulia will be connected in the first phase of the proposed project.
It will cover areas of airport, railway station, Vani Vihar, Jaydev Vihar, Patia, Nandankanan and Trishulia.
The proposed metro train service will be extended to Puri. The proposal aims to connect Cuttack and Bhubaneswar with the pilgrim town.
It may be noted here that at a high-level meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary, the Metro Rail project was proposed with an aim to offer an affordable and convenient mode of transport to the public and reduce congestion on the roads.
