Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday declared an additional holiday on September 9 for the agrarian festival Nuakhai.
Notably, Nuakhai festival is scheduled to be celebrated in the state on September 8, which is a Sunday. Therefore, September 9 has also been declared a holiday, a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said.
All government offices, magisterial courts and educational institutions will remain closed on that day in the state, it added.
This year, the first harvested crop, ‘Nabanna’, will be offered to the goddess in Sambalpur at the stipulated Lagna (auspicious moment) between 9.12 am and 9.27 am on September 8.
