Bhubaneswar: In a major push towards employment generation, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday handed over appointment letters to 7,293 new recruits across 12 government departments.

The Chief Minister also graced the orientation programme held in Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar in the evening during the 12th Recruitment Fair and Training Program-2025.

Officials said this event marks a milestone in the state government’s commitment to transparent and merit-based hiring, bringing the total number of government appointments in the last 17 months to 37,325.

Describing the appointment more than just jobs, Majhi stressed that the initiative reflects the state government’s strong commitment to building capacity, creating opportunities, and empowering youth for a Viksit Odisha.

“This is more than jobs — it’s the State’s strong commitment to building capacity, creating opportunities, and empowering our youth for a #ViksitOdisha,” the Chief Minister’s Office said in a post on X

Addressing the newly appointed employees, the Chief Minister emphasised the importance of integrity in public service and advised them to commit themselves to upholding honesty and transparency in duties.

He warned against corruption, describing it as a “poison” that could jeopardise one’s career and personal life. “Stay as far away from corruption as possible; it is extremely dangerous for you and your career,” he said.

The CM outlined four key pieces of advice for the new recruits: provide compassionate and fair service to the public, strive for excellence in all tasks, continuously expand knowledge to stay relevant, and maintain utmost integrity and transparency in the workplace. He reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, encouraging the appointees to align their actions with the state’s development goals.

As per sources, the departments in which the recruitment is being made include Home, School and Mass Education, Forest and Environment, Information and Public Relations, Higher Education, Water Resources, Labour, Steel and Mines, Commerce and Transport, Fisheries, Planning and Coordination, and Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment.

Ahead of the event, a preparatory meeting was held recently by the government to finalise the list of selected candidates, and the appointment letters will be handed over accordingly. Following is the break up of appointments being made in different departments.

Home Department (2,350), School and Mass Education Department (2,750), Forest and Environment Department (1,750), Information and Public Relations Department (39), Higher Education Department (74), Water Resources Department (36), Labour Department (15), Steel and Mines Department (14), Commerce and Transport Department (14), Fisheries Department (27), and Planning and Coordination Department (8).
