Bhubaneswar: Teaching is the most respectful profession and teachers shape the future of a society, said Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday.
He was speaking at a function, organised to hand over appointment letters to newly recruited teachers, in Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. Majhi gave away the recruitment letters to 16,009 junior teachers (Schematic) in primary and upper primary schools of the state.
Addressing the new recruits, the chief minister said teachers are accorded highest status in the Indian tradition. “As per the practices of Sanatan culture, the students were imparted education under Gurus (teachers) in Gurukulas (schools). At the time, the Gurus were compared to Lords Brahma, Vishnu and Maheswar,” he said.
“The parents give birth to children. But the teachers make them complete human being through education and cultural practices,” he added.
Majhi further said he could realise the responsibilities of the teachers as he himself had served as teachers for some time. “Our government is working on fixing the contributions of the teachers towards building a new and bright future of Odisha. Keeping this in mind, the budget allocation for education has been substantially increased this year,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan highlighted the new education policy of the Centre. The new policy stressed on education through mothertongue and the teachers can teach in their vernacular language upto Class VIII, he added.
