Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday launched the Shahid Madho Singh Haath Kharcha scheme for school students belonging to scheduled tribe (ST).

The chief minister lunched the scheme while inaugurating the Adivasi Mela at Exhibition Ground in Bhubaneswar. He gave away the cheques to the eligible students on the occasion. Minister of ST & SC Development, Minorities & Backward Classes Welfare Nityanand Gond and Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi were also present on the occasion.

Under the scheme, around 3 lakh students belonging to the ST community across the state will receive one-time financial assistance. It aims at checking the drop-out rate among the students belonging to the tribal communities.

The students of Class IX and X in government and aided schools will get one-time financial assistance of Rs 5,000 under the scheme. The students availing benefits under any other scholarship schemes are also eligible to receive the incentive amount.

As per the guidelines, eligible ST students after completing their Class VIII and Class X and soon after taking admission into Class IX and XII, respectively, will be provided with Rs 5,000 as a one-time incentive amount.

The Adivasi Mela, which will continue till January 16, showcases tribal village, tribal market, tribal culture, their lifestyle besides live demonstrations and a speical pavilion dedicated to legendary freedom fighter Birsa Munda pavilion.

The Mela is organised by ST & SC Development, Minorities & Backward Classes Welfare department.
