Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi unveiled development projects worth nearly Rs 1,000 crore during his visit to Jajpur on Saturday.

These includes 83 projects worth Rs 829.76 crore and foundation stones for 77 new ones valued at Rs 170 crore, spanning across healthcare, education, agriculture, infrastructure and tourism. He announced development of Maa Biraja Temple complex at Rs 50 crore, a new bus terminal at Rs 30 crore, Biraja Agnishwar market development at Rs 21.43 crore, and expansion of the temple dharmashala at the cost of Rs 10 crore.

Emphasising on Jajpur’s industrial potential, the CM revealed that the district attracted investment proposals worth Rs 1 lakh crore. He also announced construction of a crude oil storage facility by Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserves Limited, at an investment of Rs 8,743 crore, which is expected to generate over 5,000 jobs. “Jajpur, with its rich historical legacy and industrial prowess, is poised to become the industrial capital of our state,” he said, while highlighting the strategic importance of the ancient capital of Utkal in Odisha’s development narrative.

Inauguration of Jajati Keshari Medical College and Hospital, which was allocated 50 MBBS seats for the first academic year, was the other highlight of the event.

The CM also informed about plans to increase the seats to 100 from the next academic session.

The five-day-long ‘Jajpur Zilla Mahotsav Jajati 2025’ also kicked off at Prashasanik Bhawan ground in Jajpur town in his presence. “From freedom struggle to art, literature, culture, agriculture, industry and tourism, Jajpur hold a special identity in the state,” he said, adding the festival would provide a common platform for artistes across Jajpur district to showcase their talent.

Majhi also acknowledged the district’s cultural heritage, particularly the Buddhist sites of Ratnagiri, Lalitgiri and Udayagiri, while asserting the government’s commitment to preserving and promoting local traditions alongside modern development.

A Pallishree Mela is also being organised to provide marketing facilities to rural vendors and craftsmen.

Earlier in the day, Majhi also inaugurated Vyasa Sarovar tank at Vyasanagar and the Jajpur Road town hall. He also disbursed the first instalment of Rs 5,000 to 18 lakh beneficiaries under the fourth phase of Subhadra Yojana at a special event at Chandama Padia there in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida.
