Bhubaneswar: Reacting sharply to the mention of ‘suicide’ word during the public grievance hearing in Bhubaneswar, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Monday urged people to observe patience and have faith in due process.
Sources said the reaction came when an elderly applicant, while narrating his plight, spoke about ending his life. Taking strong exception, the Chief Minister immediately stopped the man and asked him to refrain from uttering the word.
Urging people to refrain from considering the extreme step, Majhi said his presence at the grievance hearing session shows the government’s keenness to solve their problems. “Please do not utter this word. If your complaint is genuine, justice will definitely be delivered. That is why I am present here personally,” CM said.
Majhi pointed out that his presence at the grievance cell itself showed the government’s intent to resolve issues being faced by the people. He further advised everyone present that all grievances brought to him would be addressed.
The Chief Minister’s appeal came in the wake of a spate of n self-immolation attempts in the state. In the latest incident, a minor girl from Padampur area of Bargarh district succumbed to burn injuries while undergoing treatment at VIMSAR in Burla on Monday.
