Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi is scheduled to lay the foundation stone for the new Lok Seva Bhawan (state secretariat) during a ceremony at the existing Lok Seva Bhawan conference hall on Monday.
The new Lok Seva Bhawan will be constructed over 71.13 acre and will house both the administrative secretariat and the new Odisha Legislative Assembly building in a single integrated complex. A master plan this ambitious project, with an estimated cost of Rs 3,623 crore, has already been approved, an official release said.
The initiative aims to replace the existing Lok Seva Bhawan, which has served the state for over 68 years but faces challenges like space constraints and inadequate parking. The new facility will feature modern amenities, including underground parking to address long-standing issues and improve efficiency in governance.
In addition to the secretariat project, CM Majhi will also lay the foundation stone for a dedicated elevated corridor from Jaydev Vihar to Nandankanan, costing Rs 952 crore. This infrastructure project will include flyovers at key junctions such as Jaydev Vihar, Kalinga Hospital Square, Damana Square, and KIIT Square. A notable feature includes a planned 4-lane cable-stayed bridge at Jaydev Vihar Square.
To promote environmental sustainability, 22,410 trees will be planted along both sides of the corridor.
These are part of a larger event where the Chief Minister will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for 71 projects totalling Rs 6,701 crore. The initiatives focus on enhancing public services, traffic management in Bhubaneswar, and overall urban infrastructure in the capital region, it added.
