Bhubaneswar: Odisha chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi led his Cabinet colleagues in paying floral tributes to former prime minister Manmohan Singh in Bhubaneswar on Friday.
The chief minister paid the floral tributes before a picture of Manmohan Singh At Lok Seva Bhawan in the city. Expressing his condolences, he said the demise of Singh was a great loss to the country.
“One of the leading economists of the world, Singh had pioneered in putting the country’s economy in the global arena. He was also an astute politician and created a special place for himself in Indian politics by his profound knowledge, honesty, behaviour and friendly nature,” Majhi said.
Several ministers, MLAs and senior officers also paid tributes at the Lok Seva Bhawan.
Earlier, many top BJP leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath paid their heartfelt tributes to the former prime minister at the latter’s residence in New Delhi.
After suffering from age related complications, Singh passed away at the age of 92 in New Delhi on Thursday night.
