Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will not be attending the G20 gala dinner being hosted by President Droupadi Murmu, on the opening day of the G20 Summit in New Delhi on Saturday, official sources said.
However, no specific reason has been cites for his absence from the dinner, which will include all cabinet and state ministers, chief ministers and secretaries to the Government Of India.
Chief Ministers Nitish Kumar, Hemant Soren, Mamata Banerjee, MK Stalin, Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann, on the other hand, have confirmed their attendance. However, chief ministers of Congress-ruled states of Karnataka, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan are unlikely to be present. While Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has officially communicated that he would not be attending the gala dinner citing ‘pre-engagement’, there is no confirmation yet about Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot’s presence at the dinner.

Among others, former Prime Ministers Manmohan Singh and HD Deve Gowda have also conveyed to the central government about their inability to attend the dinner due to health reasons.
The event’s host, President Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar with his wife Sudesh Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former President Ram Nath Kovind, and former Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu will join the dinner party.

The dinner will be held at the multi-function hall of the revamped India Trade Promotion Organisation Complex, Bharat Mandapam in Delhi’s Pragati Maidan. Muktesh Pardeshi, who is heading the operations and logistics for the two-day summit, told NDTV that along with the dinner, the dignitaries will also get to witness a short cultural programme.
