Bhubaneswar: Ahead of the Hockey World Cup 2018, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, on Sunday, reviewed the construction work at Kalinga Stadium.
The Hockey World Cup will be held from November 28 to December 16.
The Chief Minister looked around the stadium and directed for expedition of construction work.
“Reviewed the progress of work at Kalinga Stadium and happy to see the pace of the beautification and modernization work. I am assured that it will be completed well in time, ensuring a world-class experience during Odisha Men’s Hockey World Cup 2018,” the Chief Minister tweeted.
After completion of the World Cup, the total capacity of the stadium will be 15,000, he added.
Currently, the capacity of the hockey stadium in Kalinga Stadium is 8,000.
The entire stadium is undergoing a revamp. Both the practice turf and main turf are being replaced. Besides, two additional galleries, the seating capacity of the existing stands are also being increased.
Apart from the Chief Minister, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, Sanjay Kumar Singh , Infrastructure Development Corporation Of Odisha and officials from Sports & Youth Services Department (DSYS) were present during his inspection.
As a part of the World Cup preparations, the Chief Minister also took stock of the Smart Janpath project site, under the Bhubaneswar Smart City project on Saturday.
He took a look at the presentations and inspected the work being undertaken, including the specific corridors along the road, and expressed pleasure over the progress.
