Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has stressed on expansion of banking network in the state for effective implementation of welfare programmes of the government so that COVID-19 pandemic can be fought economically.
Inaugurating eight new branches of HDFC Bank in the state through video conference on Friday, Naveen said, “The expansion of banking network in the state will be very helpful to our pro-people initiatives.”
Stating that the new branches during the present crisis is a step towards financial inclusion of the unbanked people, he said the social outreach initiatives of Odisha have made it a model state in the country in terms of financial inclusion of all sections of the society.
The new branches of the HDFC Bank included five in Khurda district and one each in Sundargarh, Sambalpur and Kendrapara districts.
“I am happy that HDFC Bank has been expanding its branch network in semi-urban and rural areas of Odisha,” the CM said, adding that the government will provide all necessary support in opening more branches and business correspondent points in the state.
