Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who holds the Finance portfolio, is slated to present the state budget for 2026-27 fiscal on Friday afternoon in Odisha Assembly, which has been witnessing disruptions for the last 3 days.

According to sources, the state budget is likely to touch Rs 3.20 lakh crore, up from last year’s budget size of Rs 2.90 lakh crore. The state government had also brought a supplementary budget of Rs 17,440 crore during 2025-26.

The budget is expected to outline key revenue sources and expenditure priorities for the upcoming financial year.

With its Viksit Odisha vision by 2036, the government is expected to accord high priority to rural and urban development, infrastructure expansion, education, healthcare, agriculture and women’s empowerment in the upcoming fiscal plan.

Sources indicated that allocations may also reflect a continued push toward social welfare and capital expenditure, in line with previous spending trends.

However, concerns persist over the state’s inability to fully utilise allocated funds within stipulated timelines an issue that has emerged as a major administrative challenge. At the same time, rising debt levels continue to add pressure on the state’s fiscal management.

Amid the challenges, the Chief Minister is expected to present a balanced budget, carefully navigating between development commitments and fiscal prudence. Notably, this will be his third consecutive budget presentation as Finance Minister.

The government is also expected to make some significant announcements and policy priorities while presenting the budget. The focus is likely to be on initiatives to boost growth while maintaining financial discipline in in the state.

“With the divine blessings of Mahaprabhu Shri Jagannath and the abiding faith of the people of Odisha, we are advancing steadily towards the vision of a Viksit and Samruddha Odisha,” the Chief Minister said in a post on X ahead of budget presentation.

The Odisha Budget 2026–27, being presented today in the Assembly, goes beyond numbers and allocations. It lays out a clear roadmap for inclusive growth, reflecting the collective aspirations of annadatas, Narishakti, youth, and every stakeholder in the state’s progress he said.

“Rooted in the spirit of Antyodaya, this Budget reaffirms our commitment to ensure that development reaches the last mile and translates into dignity, opportunity, and shared prosperity for all,” Majhi added.
