Bhubaneswar: Soon after arriving from New Delhi, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday proceeded to AIIMS-Bhubaneswar, where Soumyashree Bisi, a second-year girl student of integrated BEd at Fakir Mohan (Autonomous) College in Balasore is battling for life after self-immolation.
The CM held discussions with the AIIMS authorities here and also interacted with family members of the victim.
Speaking to mediapersons, Majhi said shifting her to AIIMS-Delhi is not feasible at this critical stage and doctors at Bhubaneswar are providing treatment on par with the national facility. “An eight-member expert team of doctor is overseeing her treatment. The team will hold a virtual consultation with specialists from AIIMS New Delhi today. The next 24 hours are critical for the girl,” he said.
The AIIMS-Bhubaneswar has formed a high-level expert committee, comprising specialists from Anesthesias, Pulmonary Medicine, Plastic Surgery, Nephrology and Nursing, to oversee and monitor the treatment of Soumyashree. Dr Sanjay Giri has been tasked with providing two daily medical updates, the hospital said in an office order.
The CM added that she will be airlifted to AIIMS New Delhi for further treatment once her condition improves.

The probe panel comprises Higher Education Director Kali Prasanna Mohapatra, Higher Education Department Joint Secretary Mousumi Nayak and Professor Jhumki Rath of BJP (Autonomous) College. It has been directed to ascertain the circumstances leading to the self-immolation attempt, look into the harassment allegation against Head of the Education Department Samir Sahu, who was allegedly demanding favours from her over poor attendance, and examine the response of the college administration, including the principal and internal complaint committee, to the complaint filed by the victim.
Meanwhile, the government has announced to bear the treatment expenses of the victim till her recovery and also the accommodation cost of her family members. They have been put up at a Dharmasala nearer to AIIMS, Bhubaneswar.
