Bhubaneswar: Colleges across Odisha might reopen in the New Year, Higher Education Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Saswat Mishara said on Thursday.
“We hope that the students will attend regular classes from the New Year. However, the state government will take a final decision in this regard,” Mishra added.
On the conduct of examinations, he said, “The undergraduate and postgraduate semester exams are likely to be postponed. The fail percentage will increase if exams are held on the basis of online classes.”
The secretary clarified, “The colleges should not conduct the examinations on the basis of online teaching as it will be a gross injustice to the students who are not able to avail the online education. Moreover, the Central government will fix the academic calendar for at least three months. Keeping this view, the examinations should be conducted after providing at least 70-80 days of classroom teaching.”
Referring to the slashing of the syllabus, Mishra said if there is a further delay in the reopening of the colleges, the government will take a decision in this regard.
