Bhubaneswar: Newly-appointed Odisha Congress president Bhakta Charan Das underwent a successful surgery for an injury in his hand sustained during the recent Sankalpa Yatra.
The 66-year-old senior Congress leader got injured in a meele of excited party workers while undertaking the yatra from Bhubaneswar to Puri before taking on his new responsibility at the party office here.
The surgery was conducted at a private hospital here.
Das was appointed as the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee president, the post which had been lying vacant since July when the central leadership dissolved the committee due to poor election performance, on February 11.
The yatra was the fist step towards bringing back the lost glory of the party and ensuring unity among its leaders. Congress in Odisha has been struggling to stay afloat having been out of power since 2000.
