Nabarangpur: In a show of strength, Congress leaders took out a huge rally and organised a public meeting here on Sunday.
After the recent resignation of former Nabarangpur MP Pradeep Majhi, who joined BJD, the party high-command sent a Central team to strengthen its base in the tribal land. The Central team, which is on a tour of the state, had first voiced its protests in Mamita Meher murder case and demanded death for the accused. It later revisited its strategy in Odisha ahead of the crucial panchayat elections next year.
Top leaders of the party Narasingh Mishra, Tara Prasad Bahinipati, Ramesh Jena and party’s Odisha in-charge Chella Kumar sent a message to the rivals that Congress still stands strong in undivided Koraput.
Speaking on the occasion Chella Kumar said BJD government has failed to ensure justice to deceased Mamita Meher. “Our senior leader Narasingh Mishra is ready to don the lawyer’s coat to fight for justice for Mamita in court which very much explains our party’s stand in the case,” said Kumar.
Mishra said Congress will intensify protest seeking justice for Mamita Meher while Bahinipati said Majhi’s resignation will not affect the party. “His (Majhi’s) resignation will motivate the tribals not to spare or accept those who cheated on them,” said Bahinipati.
Congress MP Saptagiri Ulaka said the party will work hard to win all the 14 seats here.
